At the International Potluck event organized by the International Student Office on March 1, international students prepared a variety of food from their home countries, such as Indian rice and Japanese rolls. Once everyone had tasted the food they had brought, it was time for all the international students who had come to vote on what they thought were the three best dishes.
Elena Amile, one of the organizers of the event, referenced the fact that there are a lot of international students on campus as a reason for holding the event. International students have different cultures, so the office wanted to organize this event as a way to let students share and learn about each other and their cultures.
It was also a good opportunity for international students to experience the differences in food between cultures.
There were some challenges in organizing the event, and Amile mentioned that holding the event close to spring break led to problems in coordinating students and staff. The event, however, still managed to occur without any issues.
If you are also an international student and eager to learn about the culture of people in other countries, keep an eye out for emails from the International Students Office, which sends out an email weekly to advertise upcoming events.
