Spooky Season Writing Contest

Spooky+Season+Writing+Contest

Penn State University Libraries are hosting a spooky story creative writing contest! You can try your hand at writing a short story or poem that follows the theme of “Among The Shadows. Any member of the Penn State family can enter a submission into the contest, this includes faculty and staff.

The contest runs through October and will be still taking submissions up until the 31st. The subject for the short stories and poems should be under the category of dark fairy tales, to get fully into the spirit of halloween. This is a fun little contest across all of the Penn State campuses, with five chosen winners that will each win a prize of $100 for their submission, with honorable mentions being recognized as well. Short stories that qualify for submission should not exceed 7,500 characters and poems submitted are not to be over 6,000 characters. Stories are to be submitted to https://psu.short-edition.com/stories to be qualified for voting. Also don’t be afraid to read some of your fellow Penn State peers’ literary work. Who knows, the next Stephen King could be currently enrolled with us. Why not try your hand at writing and storytelling. No doubt you have daydreamed about a possible story idea paired with plot and character dynamics at least once. Why not make that idea reality and try your hand with this writing contest, you will most likely surprise yourself with your work.

If you have any questions at all about this contest at all you should contact Danica White who is the student engagement coordinator for the library at [email protected].
