Track Team Sets New Records in New York

On Friday, Feb. 3rd, the men’s and women’s track teams at Penn State Harrisburg rewrote the record book when they competed at New York University for the Division III indoor invitational.

The event was highlighted by sophomore distance runner Tatyana Gibson, who shattered her 2022 program mile record with a blazing time of 5:38.66. Gibson also placed in the top half of the Women’s Mile run and the Women’s 800m run.

Sophomore sprinter Leah Gray placed 4th in the 60m and 9th in the 200m. Gray’s 27.00 time in the 200m was good enough to jump into 3rd place in program history. Sophomore Alaina Nofisat also turned in a solid performance in the women’s long jump with a 4.70-meter length that landed her just outside the top ten.

The men’s team also put up some excellent numbers on Friday. Freshman jumper Isaac Whitson managed a long distance of 12.83 meters in the triple jump invite, vaulting him into 2nd all-time in Penn State Harrisburg’s record books. That length also secured him a 6th-place finish.

The men’s throwers saw success on Friday, as well. Senior Colman Acoliste moved into second place in the weight throw with a 13.53-meter toss. Senior thrower Angad Bhullar’s 13.08-meter shot ranked him 2nd at Friday’s invitational and 3rd in Penn State Harrisburg’s record books.

Next up for Penn State Harrisburg track & field is a competition against Susquehanna at Selinsgrove in the River Hawk Friday Night Showdown on Feb. 10. This will be their last indoor meet before the indoor New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships on Feb. 20.
