Penn State Harrisburg’s THON struck out cancer with its annual Bowl For A Cure event on November 8. The event was held so the organization could celebrate 100 days until THON and to help raise money for kids with pediatric cancer.
Mackenzie Marker serves as THON President for Penn State Harrisburg and views the event as a nice get together for the organization.
“Our THON bowling event is 100 days till THON countdown weekend. It’s a way for our team members to get together, have fun and do some bowling,” Marker stated.
Participants at the event enjoyed being with each other while bowling. While they enjoyed bowling they enjoyed it not as a competition but a way to look at the big picture.
While the bowling was enjoyable, the participants were looking at the bigger picture at the event.
Clara Baker serves as THON Morale Captain for Penn State Harrisburg and participated, both for the fun of it and to help out.
“It’s really awesome being a part of THON events. We get to eat food and have fun especially with the bowling event. We got to be with each other and it was for a great cause,” Baker explained.
While bowling, the committee was focused on the main goal of the event.
“The goal for our event is to have it as a fundraiser and it’s just a way to benefit the four diamonds,” Marker added.
“The main takeaway from this event was enjoying each other’s company, and being together for something that matters. It’s what THON is all about raising money for the kids,” Baker also added.
THON’s Bowl For A Cure raised a total of 96 dollars. Another THON bowling event is scheduled for February and, as always, It’s For the Kids!
